In collaboration with Cubo Glasgow, April presents two large-scale oil paintings within the Aurora building on Bothwell Street, placing the works in direct conversation with the architecture and densely layered cityscape that surrounds them.
Engulfed by expansive glass surfaces, imposing structures and the compressed architecture of Glasgow's city centre, the paintings become immersed in the environment that continues to inform her practice. The rigidity and scale of the built environment contrast with the shifting, worked surfaces of oil paint, where forms emerge, dissolve and are continually reconfigured.
Glasgow is experienced through fragments of colour, light, movement and overlapping rhythms, a city constantly being altered, dismantled and rebuilt. These encounters are absorbed into the paintings through processes of accumulation, erasure and revision.
Situated within this architectural setting, the works enter into a dialogue with their surroundings, exploring the relationship between the physical surface of painting and the changing urban landscape beyond the glass.
