Paused

Paused, 2025, Oil on raw Canvas, 180cm x 120cm x 5cm.

Paused. In blue. The rain pours outside the SWG3 studio window, Glasgow is in the depth of a grey Scottish winter. LED lights flicker above a set of large canvasses. Time slows—paused in a moment where spring light slowly begins to break through the clouds. An opening. A new.

Coffee cups are piled on the desk. April is listening to a documentary on YouTube about contemporary British painters—Pam Evelyn, Jade Jadojumiti—their work, their use of colour in oils, their energy.

Music leaks through the headphones: the sound check of a band starting up downstairs. Excited gig-goers are already standing in a queue in the pouring rain.

A moment of stillness before motion. Paused.
