Riot Garments brings local artists’ work to life, creating clothes with conscience, intention and story. Riot’s Respire Relevé collection carries April’s oil canvas Breathing into the wearable world, where painting is amplified through movement, fabric and the body.

​

This collaboration is a journey of transformation and creativity: from the first brushstroke in oil within the painter’s studio, to the translation of canvas into textile through The Glasgow School of Art Centre for Advanced Textiles, into Riot’s fashion design studio, and finally worn in a Victorian West End Glasgow ballet studio.

Respire Relevé explores what happens when painting moves beyond the frame. The work is no longer still, no longer held only on canvas, but enlivened through couture garments, gesture, breath and movement. The energy of the original painting is carried onto the body, allowing colour, texture and emotion to be experienced in a new physical form.

At its heart, this is an authentic collaboration between art and fashion. It speaks to the possibilities that emerge when disciplines meet with respect, care and shared vision. Riot Garments and April come together through a mutual passion for materiality, design, colour, community and expression, creating a collection where fashion becomes art, and art becomes fashion.

This female-led collaboration celebrates enterprise, creativity and the power of local artistic exchange. It honours the studio as a place of origin, while allowing the painting to travel, to breathe, and to become part of a living, moving experience.
