Reconfiguration. Saltspace Gallery, Glasgow

Reconfiguration was a group exhibition uniting three Glasgow based artists under a particular material focus. The exhibition was held at Saltspace Gallery, High Street, Glasgow and ran from 25th- 29th May 2022. The show encompassed work from two Glasgow School of Art students, April and Garrett Ure, alongside works by recent Contemporary Art graduate from City of Glasgow College- Astrid Turner.

Being grouped together in this chance way, gave opportunity to explore both commonality and difference within our emerging sculptural practices. We found that each artist expressed a clear interest in material complexities within art practice, by chance each fabricating both multidisciplinary and multimedia works at the time with different thematic interests. We spoke fondly of our experience as students of contemporary art, producing stereotypically ephemeral or non-collectable work and how the validity of such could be discussed within the show.  By reinvesting energy in the physical world which surrounds us, we ultimately conclude that it is the art object that is our primary mode of knowledge production and research. Many overlapping themes, came to fruition as the project developed but as did differences in the work. It was this difference which ultimately gave the exhibition its unique flavour.
